General Information

Submitting to Participate

What is DemoFest and how is it structured?

DemoFest is the premier showcase of e-Learning demos. Every year, dozens of your colleagues show off their latest and greatest development efforts at DemoFest. This gives you an amazing opportunity to see a wide variety of solutions to common e-Learning challenges and to talk to the designers and developers about the tools, technologies, and processes they used to build them.

DemoFest is arranged with a table for each demo being shown. The developers and/or designers of the programs will be available to demonstrate their application, and discuss the design, technical, implementation, and other issues concerning their project. You can expect a fun and highly interactive event that will give you “up-close and personal” exposure to dozens of examples of e-Learning. Upon arrival at DevLearn 2010, you will receive a detailed guide to the demos, and you may visit any, or all, of the tables. We anticipate having about 50 participants showing their projects this year, maybe even more!

When is e-Learning DemoFest?

DemoFest will be held Thursday, November 4, 2010, from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm.

Is DemoFest unique to eLearning Guild events?

Yes, Demo Fest is unique to The eLearning Guild, and to DevLearn. DemoFest offers you the opportunity to share your knowledge and expertise, as well as to learn from the trials and successes of your peers.

Is DemoFest like “poster” sessions I’ve seen at other conferences?

No! Poster sessions are usually comprised of cardboard and paper displays of an application's features — VERY two dimensional. We think they should be called “p-Learning” for paper-based. At an event focused on e-Learning you should be able to see, feel, and experience the e-Learning projects. DemoFest offers you a “three dimensional” experience — you will see the programs, you will talk to the developers, and you will have a chance to interact with the programs.

If I participate in DemoFest, do I have to give a formal presentation?

No, this is a fun and casual event. You will be at your table with your laptop, and you will simply demonstrate and discuss your program and answer any questions posed to you by the attendees. You do not have to prepare any handouts or slides, or submit any handouts for publication. You are only required to answer some questions on the submission form which we incorporate into the DemoFest guide that all attendees receive.

Who can submit to participate?

Anyone who is a registered, full-conference attendee of DevLearn 2010, and who has participated in the design or development of an e-Learning project. This includes conference attendees, speakers, and expo exhibitor staff. Note that FREE, expo-only attendees are NOT eligible to submit a demo for DemoFest.

We are looking for a wide variety of examples, and for people who are willing to talk about their challenges and solutions. DemoFest is YOUR opportunity to show YOUR e-Learning projects, and get praise, insights, and feedback. It will be a fun and collegial experience as you expand your e-Learning and professional horizons.

What types of programs or courses can be submitted?

Pretty much any type of course/module/program on any topic can be submitted. You will need to select from the categories listed below when you complete your DemoFest submission.

  • Sales Training
  • Onboarding/Employee Orientation
  • Simulations – Software
  • Simulations – Hardware (for example, steps for using equipment, hardware assembly, repair, etc.)
  • Simulations – Soft skills (for example, coaching, management techniques, etc.)
  • Compliance
  • Business processes (for example, steps for claims processing, accounting practices,)
  • Academic Course (for example, courses developed for students at an academic institution)

Can vendors of e-Learning products or custom development services participate?

YES! Please refer to the question "Who can submit to participate?" above for requirments.

If you have a client who has used your tools or services, you may want to encourage that client to participate in DemoFest, and by association your product or services will be showcased. Your client must be a registered conference attendee in order to participate in DemoFest.

Note that DemoFest is NOT intended as an opportunity to sell your products or services! DemoFest is designed for peers to share their projects with peers. Anyone who is actively marketing or selling during e-Learning DemoFest will be asked to leave. Also, note that your submission must be for ONE example not multiple examples using the same tool. Choose the ONE example that best illustrates your work.

Can DevLearn 2010 speakers participate?

Yes, DevLearn 2010 speakers can participate in DemoFest.

How do I submit?

Submissions are no longer being accepted for DemoFest 2010.

How do I know if my project has been accepted?

We will review your project and send you an email within 5-7 days to let you know if your submission has been accepted. If your submission does not meet our requirements, we will give you feedback and the opportunity to re-submit your project.

If you have not heard back from us within a week of submitting your project, please contact Holly Creel at hcreel@eLearningGuild.com for your submission status.

What technology do I need to present?

  • You will need to provide your own laptop / computer.  You may provide a large monitor if you wish.
  • You must provide your own speakers if you need them.
  • There will be electrical outlets and extension cords available for power – but we strongly encourage you to fully charge your computer’s battery.
  • Wireless Internet will be available, but we encourage you to load your course / program on to your laptop hard drive or on a CD, and be prepared to run it in case you are unable to make an Internet connection.
  • If your program is accepted, you will be sent complete instructions on set-up times, technical options, etc.

Is this a competition? How will winners be selected?

This is the industry’s only true “People’s Choice” competition. DemoFest is designed to be fun and engaging, and to provide recognition for those showing their work. Rather than having a panel of “experts,” DemoFest allows your peers to vote on their favorite programs in various categories. One winner will be selected from each DemoFest category. In addition, there will be a Vendor and Non-vendor Best of Show winner selected.

  • Voting will take place at the end of e-Learning DemoFest, and awards will be given in the following categories:
    • Best of Show Vendor
    • Best of Show Non-Vendor
    • Best Sales Training entry
    • Best for Onboarding/Employee Orientation entry
    • Best Software Simulation entry
    • Best Hardware Simulation entry
    • Best Simulation for Soft Skills entry
    • Best Compliance entry
    • Best Business Processes entry
    • Best Academic entry
  • Winning entries will be recognized during the general session on Friday morning.
  • All DemoFest presenters will receive a complimentary DemoFest 2010 T-Shirt.
  • Winning entries will be featured in an DemoFest highlights webinar which will take place after the DevLearn 2010 Event.
