In this course, you will learn the business elements of instructional design, including tracking and staying on budget and timeframe, project management, facilitating challenging conversations, communicating your instructional design vision, working collaboratively, managing innovation and culture change, developing relationships with SMEs, and more. Course activities will allow you to practice collaboratively and receive feedback. This course includes multiple resources you can incorporate into your work.

This is a blended learning offering combining live online training that starts in early October and face-to-face training taking place at the DevLearn 2014 Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 25 and 26. To find more information on location and lodging, click here.

Course Description:

In this course, you will learn the business elements of instructional design.

  • Learn and practice advanced instructional design techniques
  • Learn how to track your ID projects and stay on budget
  • Practice facilitating conversations, setting expectations, and developing relationships with clients
  • Identify strategies for managing projects to keep them in scope

The blended learning workshop combines:

  • Three live instructor-led training sessions in our virtual classroom
  • Four weeks of activities and online discussions
  • One two-day in-person workshop held at the DevLearn 2014 Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada

Course Objective: In this workshop, you will:

  • Discuss today’s instructional design trends
  • Create a pitch communicating your learning solution to team members, stakeholders, and SMEs
  • Discuss learning technologies and platforms
  • Document team roles and expectations
  • Practice facilitating conversations, setting expectations, and developing relationships
  • Learn techniques for managing change within an organization to support effective instructional design
  • Identify strategies for managing projects to keep them in scope
  • Identify steps and resource for developing skills and mentoring other instructional designers

PART TWO: Client facilitation

  • Developing working relationships with clients and SMEs

Instructor:

Tracy Bissette, MEd, is the CLO and co-founder of Weejee Learning. She an expert on effective instructional design techniques and leads a team that creates enterprise-wide eLearning solutions for many companies, from Fortune 500s to nonprofits.

Additional Information:

Duration: Four weeks, with activities between sessions, combining virtual live online training and a face-to-face workshop taking place at the DevLearn 2014 Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 25 and 26.

Tracy Bissette, MEd, is president of learning services at Principled Technologies (PT). In her current role, she advises Fortune 500 companies, NGOs, and trade associations on learning strategy and innovation, and oversees the creation and development of custom learning programs and solutions. Prior to PT, Tracy was co-founder and CLO of Weejee Learning, an innovative learning services company acquired by PT, and vice president of Mindworks Multimedia, where she created and guided the growth of the company’s eLearning division. Tracy’s prior achievements include The Business Journals’ Women in Business achievement award and 2012’s Top 40 Under 40 Business Leader award.
