Course Description:

Using the acronym A.G.I.L.E. (align, get set, iterate and implement, leverage, and evaluate), Dr. Conrad Gottfredson will help guide you through a unique iterative approach for instructional design that addresses all five moments of learning need—when people need to:

  • Learn something new
  • Learn more about what they’ve learned
  • Apply what they have learned
  • Unlearn in order to relearn because of change
  • Solve a problem

The blended learning workshop combines:

  • Three live instructor-led training sessions in our virtual classroom
  • Three weeks of activities and online discussions
  • One two-day in-person workshop held at the DevLearn 2014 Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada

Course Objective: In this course, you will:

  • Learn to use an iterative approach for instructional design that addresses all five moments of need
  • Develop instructional design deliverables with performance-based outcomes
  • Design solutions that address the entire learning continuum—from formal learning to informal learning to effective performance on-the-job

Instructors:

Dr. Conrad Gottfredson is an expert in organizational learning, collaborative development, knowledge management, eLearning, performance support, and instructional design and development, and the original developer of the “learning at the five moments of need” framework that is now in use around the world.

Carol Stroud is a learning and performance support strategist, specializing in healthcare. She obtained her project management professional designation in 2013, and recently became certified as a scrum master and product owner in agile project management.

Additional Information:

Duration: Over four weeks, a total of 15.5 hours of live instruction. Course work includes expand and apply activities that challenge you to integrate the principles discussed into personal projects between sessions. This course combines 6.5 hours of virtual live online training and 9 hours over 1.5 days face-to-face workshop taking place at the DevLearn 2014 Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, October 25 and Sunday, October 26.

Class Size: Class size limited to 25.

Prerequisites: No prerequisites.

Conrad Gottfredson, the chief learning strategist at APPLY Synergies, has deep experience in organizational learning, collaborative development, knowledge management, online learning, performance support, and instructional design and development. Conrad is the original developer of the Learning at the Five Moments of Need framework now in use around the world. He has worked with many of the world's largest organizations, helping them attain higher levels of learning agility. Conrad's experience includes the design and deployment of large-scale knowledge management and performance support systems within multinational corporations. In 2014 Conrad was awarded the Guild Master Award for his accomplishments and contributions to the eLearning community. He holds a PhD in instructional psychology and technology.

Carol Stroud, M.E.D., is the owner of Saxon Bay Consulting. Carol has been involved with learning for many years, including 15 years as an instructional designer. She’s been a curriculum developer, technology liaison, and a rapid-task-analysis instructor, the latter in collaboration with Dr. Conrad Gottfredson, chief learning strategist of APPLY Synergies. Carol also served as a learning and performance support strategist with numerous health authorities in British Columbia.
