What Is the Backchannel, and How Does It Enhance Learning Experiences?

Mar. 19, 2013

10:30 AM–11:30 AM Pacific Time

Years ago, someone typing on a smartphone during a learning event might have been seen as a sign of distraction. Today, we recognize this behavior differently as learners connecting with content in a new way. Using social media, learners connect and share with others in the room and around the globe. Through this sharing, learners are able to expand and contextualize the learning experience. We commonly refer to this sharing as the “backchannel.”

Join us as we explore backchannels with David Kelly, curator of eLearning Guild and other conference backchannels (see example), and an expert on how backchannels can enhance learning. We’ll ask David how backchannels work and ask him to share tips on how best to participate. We will also explore the process David uses when curating conference backchannels, and how he sees backchannels evolving in the future.
