Event structure

  • 1-day pre-conference workshops on November 11
  • 2 ½ day conference (November 12-14)
  • Two-day expo
  • You will be assigned a speaking slot by the Program Manager. If you have any scheduling conflicts, please note that on your submission form.
  • Concurrent sessions are 75 minutes in duration. 

Description of Event


DevLearn™ 2008 Conference & Expo – is specifically designed to provide those who are developing e-Learning with a comprehensive program of learning opportunities. The target audience is anyone involved in the development, delivery, implementation, and management of e-Learning. The conference will focus on the tools, technologies, strategies and techniques for developing e-Learning. The program will address the needs of designer/developer generalists, specialized hard-core developers, and their management.

  • Actual job title
  • The task they perform on the development “team”.
  • Whether they work in a corporate, government, or academic setting.
  • The content or type of learning they are designing, developing, and/or managing.
  • The scope of responsibilities – whether as a specialist or a generalist.
  • The extent of responsibilities – whether as a individual contributor, departmental manager, divisional director, or corporate executive.
The program of this conference targets the tools, technologies, techniques, and strategies for developing and managing e-Learning regardless of the context in which they are applied. The simple fact that professionals attend from all the various groups listed above ensures that there is a robust flow of information and rich cross-fertilization of ideas across industry and functional boundaries.

Presenter Eligibility

  • Guild members and non-members are welcome to submit proposals.
  • Vendors/suppliers of e-Learning/blended learning products and services are encouraged to submit a case study with a client though this is not required.
  • Vendors of e-Learning products and services will be considered, however, NO marketing or self-promotion is allowed. Sessions must be educational and information in content.

Proposal Content Considerations

  • Sessions with practical, proven solutions are of special interest.
  • Sessions that address intermediate and advanced levels are of special interest.
  • All proposals will be considered for inclusion in the program.

Sessions Topics

  • Sessions should address the needs of experienced e-Learning professionals.
  • Sessions should focus on the practical application of tools, technologies, strategies, and techniques.
  • Be specific.
  • General topics like “How to develop e-Learning” are too broad.
  • Sample topics could be:

    • How to Survive as the “One-Man” Development Team

Selection Criteria


Sessions will be selected upon the following criteria:
  • Educational value
  • Uniqueness to the program
  • Appropriateness to the conference audience
  • Speaker’s appropriateness to deliver topic (i.e. does the speaker have the expertise, experience, etc. on the topic.)

Compensation:

  • One free event registration is provided for a session.
  • This free registration is given to the main presenter (#1) listed on the submission form.
  • Co-presenters or panelists receive a discounted conference fee.
  • This discount can NOT be combined with any other discounts.
  • Registrations cannot be shared or split.
  • Co-presenters must be identified at the time of submission and must pay the discounted fee.
  • Registration fee MUST be paid by September 1, 2008 in order to receive the discount. 
  • Co-presenters cannot just present for their session and waive the fee.
  • All registrations include conference materials, access to post event site, conference meals, conference receptions and networking activities.
  • Presenters who are selected to conduct more than one session are given one free registration in total.
  • Pre-conference workshops and symposia are not included as part of the free registration. Presenters not conducting a workshop or symposia must pay the full fee to attend.
  • Other co-located events are not included as part of speaker free or reduced registration. You must pay any associated fees for these activities. 
  • Workshop presenters receive a speaker stipend based upon the number of paid registrants for their workshop. No stipends are given for concurrent sessions.

Speaker Technical Requirements

  • Speakers must provide their own laptop/computer and any software to run their presentation.
  • If you are accessing the Internet in your session, you must provide your own NIC card or wireless card.

Information Required by Selected Presenters


If you are selected as a presenter, you will need to provide the following within a few weeks of acceptance.
  • Your photo “headshot” photo in jpg or gif format.
  • A signed Speaker Agreement which states that you agree to present.
  • The AV and technical requirements for your session(s).
