Moving from Training to Collaborative Learning
Modality Migration

Listen Now

Thursday April 12, 2007 03:30 PM

Doug Foster, D Foster Associates

As product cycle times have decreased and product complexity increased, it is much more complex for organizations to effectively train their sales staff, support team, and reseller channel. Additionally, consumers have become more technically savvy, and expect easy access to significant technical product information before making a buying decision. Traditional training and e-Learning development methodologies do not keep up with the rapid product changes and the need to roll out training concurrent to, or sometimes prior to, the product launch.

Session participants will learn techniques of a collaborative learning process which not only accelerates the product training cycle but provides feedback to the development team. The process allows for the collection of hidden or “tacit” knowledge within the company, resellers, and end-users for re-purposing into formal training documents. You will learn steps to take to migrate to a collaborative learning process.

In this session, you will learn:
  • How to rapidly roll-out product training, both internally and external to the company

  • How to use ask-the-expert forums and FAQs to gather hidden or tacit company knowledge

  • How to use end-user feedback to quickly focus training development efforts on the most critical point of need

  • What tools can facilitate collaborative learning
Audience:
Novice instructional designers, managers, directors and others. This session focuses primarily on higher-level issues of collaboration and training, and will not require in-depth technical knowledge.
