Session Title: Making a Serious Case for Games and Sims

Speaker(s): Anne Derryberry

Description:
Many people are thinking about games and sims as offering significant learning opportunities, but just can't figure out how to start. Either they're stymied by how to get an initiative approved and funded, or they're not sure how to conceptualize a project design, and the plan to go with it.

Session participants will examine the questions and issues that they must consider in making a recommendation, and a decision, for adopting a game or sim to address workplace performance and learning. In this session, you will walk through a heuristic model for determining whether a game or sim solution ought to be considered, ways to determine your organization's readiness for games and sims, and how to build a case for it. You will leave the session with tips, tools, tricks, and approaches that will enable you to go from the “cool idea" to a "great proposal" for your game/sim initiative.

In this session, you will learn:
  • About low-cost, low-risk ways of introducing games and sims to your organization

  • How to conceptualize a game or sim solution to a particular performance issue

  • New factors to consider in your process model
