Learning management systems (LMSs) have become a standard component in an organization’s technology and learning infrastructure. LMSs are tracking, launching, and reporting on tens of thousands of learning activities for millions of learners in just about every type of organization in just about every country on every continent, serving every industry and governmental organization. However, a large proportion of these organizations are not happy with their current LMS and, in particular, its ability to handle next-generation learning requirements. In addition, there continues to be a set of established myths about what LMSs can and cannot do and their relationship to learning that need to be addressed as organizations move forward.

This session will provide the perspectives and insights you will need to be successful as you move your organization into the future. Participants will first focus on LMS “basics” and how organizations are currently using LMSs. This will provide a solid foundation from which to look ahead. You will next look at the key current trends in workplace learning in order to understand what will be the next generation of learning requirements and their impact on LMSs. As LMS vendors are already beginning to offer new advanced learning capabilities, you will review the LMS trends and how they meet both current and future learning requirements.
