Agile Project Management for eLearning Development
DevLearn 2011 Conference - November 2, 2011
dBolen & Associates
Many learning professionals struggle with project management. Projects take too long, resources (money and subject-matter experts) are not available, or the project gets saddled with scope creep. Agile principles can help the learning profession to focus on delivering a finished program on time that meets the customer's requirements. Agile grew out of the desire to find a better way to develop and deliver software projects. It is all about collaboration, leveraging the creativity of teams, building quality products, and learning to apply lessons to the next project. The Agile approach naturally aligns with eLearning development. Agile can provide a framework to better manage stakeholders and deal with the inevitable changes in content.
This session will introduce participants to the Agile process tools of Scrum and Kanban. In the software development world, Agile has increased speed-to-market, increased ROI, and reduced time. Agile provides for development of the product that the customer needs without waste. You will be provided with tools and a framework for eLearning development to use a Scrum and/or Kanban approach. This session will be based in the world of eLearning, not software development.
In this session, you will learn:
- What Agile is, and isn't
- How Agile aligns with “traditional” project management
- The details of Scrum and Kanban and how to apply them to eLearning development
- The tools available for planning and tracking development
