Facebook: Fad or Powerful Learning Engine
DevLearn 2011 Conference - November 4, 2011
Chief Learning Evangelist
Organizations are engaged in a tug of war between the IT department pulling in one direction and the employees (aka the Learners) pulling in the opposite direction. Both parties have valid reasons for their efforts, however, while the contest is in play, everyone is losing. This session will help participants address the gap between the modern learner’s expectations and the concerns and restrictions of legacy policies and technology infrastructure. Facebook is the most popular social media tool on the planet. It presents an incredible opportunity to share learning content with your stakeholders in an unprecedented manner. With a learning strategy outside of your firewall on Facebook, you are inviting stakeholders to contribute to your organization’s growth through social learning.
In this session, participants will learn how organizations can meet their learner’s expectations and engage on Facebook. The combination of case study and demonstration will guide you through the array of Facebook tools available to supplement performance efforts within an organization’s learning strategy. You’ll go through a blueprint of social media governance, engagement practices, and results measurement.
In this session, you will learn:
- The two-sided debate on including Facebook into an organizational strategy
- The value of Facebook in a learning strategy
- A strategy for evaluating your Facebook activity
- How to build your Facebook community around a culture of uncensored sharing
