Online Teachers Training Going Mobile: A Strategic Approach

In the field of eLearning, many organizations are exposed to budget cuts and frequently are asked to do more with less while maintaining the quality of their services. This is not an exception for online teachers training, a field which, as in many others, must consider mobile learning while going - repeatedly - through budget restrictions.

Participants in this case-study session will learn how the Botín Foundation, in order to scale the social and emotional education program implemented in three schools in Cantabria, and expanded to 16 in 2011 and 50 by 2013, has transitioned towards a blended learning model. This model is based on the use of open source/free software, and takes into consideration the importance that mobile devices can have on teachers training. You will see a model that can scale online training programs and an approach to reduce the budget.

In this session, you will learn:

  • How to set up a nearly no-cost online teacher's program
  • How to take this online program mobile
  • How to adjust the whole project based on your audience feedback
  • How to avoid being tied to external providers

Technology discussed in this session: Moodle, Firefox, Android, iOS, iPhone

Audience: Novice to intermediate designers, developers, project managers, and managers. Instructional design skills are not necessary but may be helpful in understanding the material.
