Use Content Strategy to Transform Your Learning Development Efforts
DevLearn 2013 Conference & Expo - October 23, 2013
Managing Partner, Strategy and New Product Development
Learning development costs continue to increase, as do the number of modalities available for learning delivery. Only through careful planning and separation of content from presentation can you lessen the workload. Wasted efforts are rampant in the learning industry due to this oversight. The bottom line is that we need to stop building things from scratch and employ content strategy to reduce costs and maximize productivity.
Content strategy has long been employed in the web-design world, but has largely escaped our industry. Through a series of concrete examples, you will hear the case for content strategy in the learning and development industry. Participants will gain insight into content strategy and how it can be used to reduce efforts and increase reuse of learning deliverables.
In this session, you will learn:
- What content strategy is and how it benefits your organization
- How to create a framework for content strategy in your learning organization
- How to apply principles of content strategy to learning design
- How to employ content strategy for a multiscreen world
Novice and intermediate project managers, managers, and directors with a basic knowledge of web browsers and eLearning authoring tools, and a desire to improve the design and development approach for learning content in a multiscreen environment.
Technology discussed in this session:
Mobile and desktop web browsers displaying learning content; XML, JSON, and databases as external sources for content; responsive design, and the need to separate presentation from content; and source control and repositories for content.
