While linear learning methods work well for formal training, the current dynamic work context requires a more diverse mix of smaller, task-level, and role-specific learning and support content known as performer support opportunities (PSOs). These PSOs are not training per se, but if intentionally designed to serve dual roles, they can be integrated into a Learner- to-Performer Continuum. The first step involves a paradigm shift, moving from training as a driver of performance improvement to integrated learning and performer support, and from formal learning activities to facilitating the application of knowledge at the point of work.

Participants in this session will learn how to create seamless edge-to-edge solutions that allow learners to access the right learning assets at the moment of need, in a work-context-friendly amount, in a readily consumable format, and to and from the right devices. The traditional ADDIE model handles classroom and online training, but as a linear learning paradigm, it is stressed beyond its design limits by three new attributes that we will examine in this session: space, systems, and medium. Participants will learn why the characteristics of these attributes will reshape the use of ISD methods to include downstream post-training environments.

In this session, you will learn:

  • How to define the attributes of a holistic learning environment
  • How to overlay a learner-to-performer continuum over design methods
  • The importance of mapping learning and support needs across a holistic learning environment
  • How to change the conversation internally to stakeholders and externally to prospects

Audience:
Intermediate and advanced learning professionals.

Technology discussed in this session:
EPSS, portals, mobile.

Student technology needs:
Not applicable.
