This session explains the situation at Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) before and after introducing the virtual learning solution into the training mix, including the changes made to PG&E’s training tools and templates, and the changes the training team and the business had to make to support virtual learning. Virtual learning has allowed PG&E to reduce training-travel costs and keep valued resources out in the field. Change management has resulted in wider technology adoption, and new mobile devices and better WBT designs have helped, as have partnerships with IT and other lines of business.

Participants in this case-study session will learn how to add virtual-learning technology as part of a blended-learning solution to an organization. You’ll get samples of tools, templates, and the technologies needed to support a virtual-learning rollout, and learn how it impacts the design and development of all learning technologies. You’ll get tips on blending rich media, video, WBT, mobile devices, virtual learning, and ILT and ideas on how to measure and evaluate virtual-learning’s impact.

In this session, you will learn:

  • How PG&E Academy operationalized virtual-learning technology across the business
  • What tools, templates, and technologies you need to support a virtual-learning rollout
  • How your virtual-learning design and development can complement the use of WBT and ILT
  • What you need to support a blended-learning solution that includes virtual learning, rich media, video, and mobile devices
  • What to consider when measuring internal and external impact of a virtual-learning program

Audience:
Novice designers and project managers with basic knowledge of the instructional design and development process (analysis, design, develop, implement, evaluate). Familiarity with webcasting and virtual learning is helpful.
