Flying Solo: Design, Develop, and Deliver
Learning Solutions Conference & Expo 2014 - March 21, 2014
Collier County Supervisor of Elections
Being the only person in a department or company newly tasked with designing, developing, and delivering compelling eLearning and ILT on a budget can be a challenge. Without the benefit of supporting personnel or coworkers specializing in a field, the solo practitioner has to find a way to do it all. How does one person train a group of 600 volunteers to perform sometimes complex and technical tasks for a one-day event? Mix in the added obstacle of the learner’s average age being close to 70 and a computer novice and you have a true challenge.
This session will focus on tips and recommendations for one person taking an entire project from start to finish. The discussion will focus on best practices and missteps throughout each step of the process, including purchasing equipment and software decisions, designing, developing, testing, delivering, and performance support. The participants will be shown examples of what worked and what didn’t. Examples will include equipment lists and purchasing justifications, identifying target audience, course design considerations, eLearning development tips, starting out in video, focus groups, delivery challenges, and support successes. Participants will see examples of how to find cost- and time-effective ways to design, develop, and deliver training for a diverse audience.
In this session, you will learn:
- How to balance the demands of being a solo practitioner
- About developing eLearning with video on a budget
- How to enhance ILT with eLearning and performance support
