If your idea is a match with our editorial focus, the editor will contact you to schedule your article.

How to Prepare Learning Solutions Content

Once you’ve agreed on a topic with the editor, you’ll discuss:

  • Schedule—The target date for publication of the article determines the submission deadline.
  • Section—Learning Solutions content targets audience members in specific eLearning roles: Executive, Management, Design, and Development, as well as covering Technology that impacts eLearning.
  • Length—Learning Solutions articles are generally between 500 words and 1,500 words, with some flexibility to allow writers to explore their topic.
  • SEO guidelines—Learning Solutions targets professional audiences using long-tail keywords. The editor will guide you in selecting a primary SEO keyword and 3 – 5 related SEO keywords, which you’ll list at the top of the first page of your article. Please include the primary keyword in the:
    • Article title
    • Opening paragraph (lead)
    • Closing paragraph
  • Images—Let the editor know if you can include original photos and graphics (you own/control the copyright) or images that are in the public domain or have a Creative Commons Attribution or Share Alike license. Please include full credit information and alt text descriptions for images. The alt text should include the SEO keywords where possible.

Prior to publication, the editor may:

  • Edit for clarity, length, and style
  • Fact-check, and
  • Make any other revisions deemed necessary

Learning Solutions Content Categories

Executive: This category focuses on enterprise-level strategy. Content here caters to those that are responsible for an entire organization’s L&D strategy, and how that strategy fits within the larger organizational strategy. The people engaged at this level are likely dedicating all of their time to strategic work; they are rarely themselves involved in the tactical design and development of L&D programs.

Management: This category focuses on management-level strategy, usually in the scope of managing a training team and in managing the programs created by the team. Content here caters to those that are responsible for a team of L&D professionals, including the L&D strategy within that scope. The people engaged at this level are often balancing strategic work for their team with more tactical design and development of L&D programs.

Design: This category focuses on the non-technical process of designing learning programs. Content here targets topics related to what should be built, the look and feel of programs, the user experience that learners will have, and in creating a solution that meets the stakeholders requirements. The people engaged at this level may be fully dedicated designers, or also be involved in the development of projects.

Development: This category focuses on the technical process of building learning programs. Content here targets topics related to how things are built, the complex, “under-the-hood” functionality of programs, creating interactivity, and in building solutions based off an approved design spec. The people engaged at this level may be fully dedicated developers, or may also be involved in the design of projects.

Technology: This category focuses on the technologies used to design, develop, and manage learning programs. Content here targets the technologies themselves, providing understanding of what the technologies do and the value they have to the work done in L&D. The people engaged in this content may be designers, developers, and/or managers. NOTE: Technology is going to be present in all categories. Content in this category answers “Help me better understand this technology”. If the content talks about a technology from a “Show me how to use this technology”, it would likely be better suited in one of the more role-specific categories.
