Microlearning Design Summit
Monday, October 22
Technological advancements are enabling us to provide just the right type of learning and support that our learners need, at the time and within the context that they need it. This combination of short bursts of training and just-in-time support has emerged as one of the hottest buzzwords in our industry: Microlearning.
But what exactly is microlearning, and how do you incorporate it into the learning programs your organization is building? Those are two of the key questions that will be answered at the first annual Microlearning Design Summit. We’ve brought together some of the leading voices in microlearning to separate the fact from the fiction and to help you build the skills you need to harness the potential of microlearning for your organization. At the Microlearning Design Summit, you’ll go beyond the buzz to discover the core value of microlearning and collaborate with others in building real microlearning resources that you can apply to your own projects.
8:30a – 9:00a
9:00a – 9:30a
Microlearning is the hottest buzzword in our industry. It’s also a term whose definition is hard to pin down. Our day will start by providing clarity around what microlearning is and what it is not.
9:30a – 10:00a
The Myths of Microlearning
Many of the microlearning discussions in our industry are driven by ideas and beliefs that are not research-based and that limit our ability to harness the true potential of microlearning. Exploring these myths will form a foundation upon which to build your designs.
10:00a – 10:15a
10:15a – 11:00a
Panel: Microlearning Strategy
Where does microlearning fit into your organization’s learning strategy? Does microlearning replace existing approaches or augment them? Our team of expert facilitators will answer these questions and more as we explore how to incorporate microlearning into your learning strategy.
11:15a – 12:00p
Exploring Microlearning Assets
What type of content qualifies as microlearning? We will discuss the various forms of media and formats that work well for microlearning and review examples that you can apply in your own designs.
12:00p – 1:00p
1:00p – 4:00p
Build Your Own Microlearning Assets
During the afternoon we’ll put what we learned into practice. We’ll examine a scenario, examine how microlearning might be used to address the challenge, and collaboratively build microlearning resources that can solve the problem.
1:00p – 1:15p
Examine the business scenario
1:15p – 1:30p
Identify the core objectives (business, performance, and/or learning objectives) and create a plan for how microlearning can be used to address it.
1:30p – 2:30p
Create a design plan for building a single microlearning resource
2:30p – 2:45p
2:45p – 3:45p
Build a microlearning asset based on your design plan
3:45p – 4:15p
Groups will briefly share what they built, so that all can learn from each group’s efforts.
4:15p – 4:30p
Final questions are answered, and tips on how to execute microlearning in your organization are shared.
