P19 Getting Started with Immersive Learning
8:30 AM - 4:30 PM Tuesday, October 28
Van Gogh 1
Organizations typically strive to achieve one or two objectives: making the world better and/or making money. The path to becoming a learning organization must also coincide with the path to an organization’s success, and learning professionals have struggled to bridge those two concurrent goals. Immersive learning design is an opportunity to help organizations shift their training focus from knowing to doing.
In this workshop you will design your own immersive learning solution, with an eye on moving your organization further along the continuum of becoming a learning organization that focuses on performance improvement and business success. While designing your solution you will learn how to infuse the design with features that help your entire organization to evolve and grow. You will leave the workshop with a draft design of an immersive learning solution and a plan for how to incorporate immersive design features throughout your training curriculum to focus on practice, performance improvement, and developing the characteristics of a learning organization.
In this session, you will learn:
- How immersive learning can help your organization evolve into a learning organization
- The basic principles of immersive design
- The steps in designing an immersive learning experience
- What technologies are available to deliver your immersive learning experience
- How to infuse immersive learning elements into your existing training to support the shift to a learning organization culture
Novice to advanced designers, developers, project managers, managers, and directors with at least a basic knowledge of instructional design.

Games, simulations, storyline-driven training, virtual learning environments, mobile learning, augmented reality, and alternate reality games, video.
