Developing a full-spectrum learning environment that supports training and the just-in-time needs of the workplace learner are the key drivers of the Defense Acquisition University’s performance learning model. The Defense Acquisition University (DAU) is intent on providing an integrated learning environment to support the training and performance-support needs of the Defense acquisition workforce. To this end, DAU is taking a multifaceted approach to addressing foundational and workplace learning by building a learning infrastructure that supports training courses, continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and mission assistance.

Participants in this session will focus on the learning model DAU has established to deliver an integrated learning environment, and explore how course developers can leverage this infrastructure to support course objectives and create more effective learning experiences. You’ll examine how DAU engages the learner beyond course objectives to provide workers with the resources and tools they need to be successful on the job. In addition to lessons learned, you’ll discuss specific examples of how DAU courses integrate the use of communities of practice and performance-support tools.

In this session, you will learn:

  • How to identify methods of shaping an integrated learning environment through course design
  • Lessons in what works and what doesn’t work
  • The benefits and synergies of incorporating learning infrastructure in course design, including communities of practice and performance-support resources

Novice-to-advanced designers, developers, and project managers. Managers, directors, and executives will gain insights from the overarching principles and concepts of an integrated learning environment.
