How will multimedia fit into the workplace-learning-and-development picture of the future? The democratization and proliferation of audio, video, animations, and other forms of multimedia—both in the workplace and in the public arena—mean we are entering an era of content abundance. Soon we will reach a point where you can satisfy just about any learning content need you have by a variety of multimedia options, catering to different technology platforms, delivery methods, budgets, and preferences. The bigger challenge then becomes how to deliver the right multimedia experience to the right learner at the right time and in the right form, to support constantly evolving audience and organizational needs.

Participants in this session will use case studies of critical learner profiles—the New Hire, the High Potential, the Technical Expert, and the Newly Promoted Leader—to examine how multimedia currently supports these learning and development needs and how that support will need to evolve moving forward. You’ll examine how the upstream talent-management processes can feed demand (for example, through succession plans) and supply resources (for example, through user-generated content) for the learning ecosystem. You’ll discuss the implications for multimedia design.

In this session, you will learn:

  • How market forces, changing demographics, and evolving talent-management practices will impact the demand for multimedia in learning
  • How user-generated content, mentoring, experiential learning, and other emerging development strategies will impact the design of multimedia for learning
  • Implications for designing multimedia that support your evolving learning ecosystem

Audience:
Intermediate and advanced managers, directors, VPs, CLOs, other executives, and those from the ranks of consulting, instructional design, and learning technologies who have a general understanding of the industry as it is today, talent management and development processes, and the technologies that support them (for example, learning-management and talent-management systems).
