Mobile has probably affected workplace learning more than any other related trend in recent years. But while a great deal of discussion and writing about mobile learning reiterates a few clichés about “anytime, anywhere learning,” many people have failed to acknowledge either the research that has gone into the field over the last 20 years or so, or the more imaginative opportunities that we can realize once we get beyond these clichés.
This session aims to get you beyond simplistic ideas about mobile learning and challenge you to imagine the greater possibilities that lie ahead. The session takes its starting point from the chapter, “The future of mobile learning and implications for education and training,” in Increasing Access through Mobile Learning (Commonwealth of Learning Press). In that chapter, David introduced a series of “top fives” to analyze the current and future states of mobile learning. The session develops these ideas further, with up-to-date examples and some new ideas about what the future holds. This analysis is designed to inspire you to think more imaginatively in providing future mobile learning products and services, explore new directions and practices, and consider mobile learning as a broad and multifaceted field rather than as a particular implementation.
In this session, you will learn:
- About some important discoveries from the last 20 years of mobile learning research
- What the future might hold for mobile learning
- Some fundamental concepts about designing cutting-edge mobile learning experiences
- What is innovative and unique about mobile learning
Novice and intermediate designers, developers, CLOs, and educators with an interest in thinking out of the box about mobile learning.
