The role of feedback in learning has long been recognized as an essential component of improving student performance. While feedback is typically easier to give in the traditional learning environment, online students also need that responsiveness from their instructors. Without knowing how they are performing to expected learning outcomes, students have no way to gauge their progress or to modify their performance to improve success. But in a lot of online courses, feedback is often reduced to frequently repeated boilerplate text. While effective performance and motivational feedback often adds the most value to the online learning experience and costs very little to deliver, vague, patronizing, and useless boilerplate feedback can demotivate students and limit remediation opportunities.
In this session, participants will learn how to rethink feedback, create more effective feedback, and help ensure that your online learners take feedback seriously.
