  • Introduction: Why Games?
    • Deep Practice
    • It’s not about millenials, it’s about better learning
  • Concept: The alignment between education and engagement
    • What makes effective learning practice?
    • What makes engaging experiences?
    • How they align
  • Understanding the space: Simulations, Scenarios, Games, Serious Games and Virtual Worlds
    • Definitions – Fun, games, interactivity, ILS, serious games, etc.
    • Examples – game genres; design components
  • Design: Working through a case study
    • Analysis – Working with SME’s; finding the interactivity; identifying resources, decision points, and tradeoffs
    • Specification – Translating the subject into game mechanics; specifying decision outcomes and feedback; creating a design document
  • Production: Tools and Techniques
    • Implementation – prototyping; project teams and management; tools
    • Evaluation – Playtesting and balancing; measuring learning effectiveness
  • Up the Organization:
    • The business case – Getting management to buy-in; risks and rewards
