FAQ

What is a QR Code?
A QR Code is a matrix code (or two-dimensional bar code). "QR" stands for "Quick Response", as the content can be decoded very quickly using a QR reader.

What do I need to read QR Codes?
To decode QR Codes, you need a special program that runs on your camera enabled cellphone.  The process is pretty simple --- you either take a snapshot of the code or simply scan over it (depending upon the phone and software), let the decoder software installed on your phone interpret the image, then view the output on your phone.  From there, you can proceed depending upon the content you have just retrieved (save to your contacts, browse the web, send an SMS, etc.)

What information can be contained in QR Codes?
A maximum of 4296 alphanumeric characters can be contained within a QR Code.  With this in mind, the opportunities are tremendous!  To start, you can input contact information.  You can embed a URL and have the reader point the cellphone to a mobile website with JIT information.  You can activate an SMS function that will alert the author when the code has been read.  You can post instructions, links to maps or wikepedia entries or just friendly notes!  Try generating some codes for yourself using some of the tools here!

Where can I find more information on QR codes?
We'll be posting more information in the weeks to come, so check back regularly!
