What is Learning Solutions Looking For?
Learning Solutions Magazine is published in conjunction with The eLearning Guild – the leading international membership organization devoted to advancing the design, development, and management of all forms of e-Learning.
The mission of Learning Solutions Magazine is to serve as a catalyst for innovation and as a vehicle for the dissemination of new and practical strategies and techniques for e-Learning. It does not aim to be “the” definitive authority. Rather, it is intended to be a medium through which e-Learning professionals can share their knowledge, expertise, and experience with others for the general betterment of our industry and professions. Many readers tell us that Learning Solutions Magazine has become the top resource for their work.
Learning Solutions Magazine publishes an issue most Mondays (excepting major holidays). Each issue contains at least one feature article and may contain an additional column. We are currently publishing online in PDF format and in the future will be adding other accessible formats for members with special needs.
Who Writes Learning Solutions Magazine Articles?
e-Learning practitioners have written every article in Learning Solutions Magazine – we never publish articles by freelance writers who have no experience in e-Learning. We publish articles written by people like you, people actively working in this dynamic field. Most of the authors since 2002 have been members of The eLearning Guild, but membership is not required.

What If You've Never Written an Article Before?
We realize that you may have excellent content for an article, but may also have never written for publication. If this describes you, don't worry! Submit your idea in the form of a query (see “Propose your article with a Query Letter” below). If your proposal is accepted, our team of editors can help you complete your article and will work with you to get it ready for publication.
What is Learning Solutions Looking For?
We are looking for original and previously unpublished 3,500 to 5,000 word articles that clearly articulate strategies, techniques, case studies, or best practices for designing, developing, and managing e-Learning. We are also looking for 750 word columns that deliver quick tips, product reviews, book reviews, important ideas or concepts, and brief tutorials.
Readers want practical, hands-on information about techniques, and they want practical advice about strategy, including new information about learning theory. In addition to “how we did it” and “how to do it” treatments, unbiased product reviews, non-promotional case studies, and best practices are of great interest to our audience. Learning Solutions readers are not interested in…
-
Product pitches, vendor press releases, white papers, or other marketing-oriented content
-
High-level overviews designed for general audiences
-
Reviews of the work or published papers of others
-
Articles by freelance writers who work outside the field of e-Learning
Please refer to the Author Guidelines section following for additional information about how to propose an article and about article content, length, and style.
Author Guidelines
Learning Solutions publishes two types of articles:
-
Features are 3,500 to 5000 words in length, and each one provides in-depth coverage of a single topic that readers can use immediately in their work.
-
Columns are 750 words long, and offer insights, tips, and other helpful information.
Propose Your Article with a Query Letter
Please submit a one-page “query” to have your proposed article considered for publication – prior to the submission of a complete manuscript. Although the editor will consider all completed manuscripts (see Manuscript Preparation below), we encourage all authors to use the query process outlined here and to discuss their ideas about potential articles with the editor first. This will ensure that the article is tailored to the needs of the audience, and to make sure another article on the same topic has not already been accepted. After careful review of the query, the editor will contact the author to discuss the potential article. All one-page queries should include:
-
A brief synopsis of the proposed article
-
A proposed outline of the article
-
The proposed articles length (is it a 3,500 to 5,000 word Feature or a 750 word Column?)
-
The author’s bio and qualifications to author the proposed article
-
The author’s contact information (e-mail and day and evening telephone numbers)
-
An indication of which of the six Learning Solutions categories your article will fall into:
-
