Are you thinking about designing a virtual game show using buzzers and flashing lights? Maybe a hover-and-reveal interaction? Planning to use a table full of data in a live webinar? Before proceeding with any of these, consider whether you may unintentionally create barriers for some learners.

Ensuring that learning is accessible to everyone should be baked into our design processes. Following the four main components of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (also known as WCAG)—Perceivable, Operable, Understandable, and Robust—this session will equip you to consider how learners with varying abilities may experience online modules, instructional videos, live webinars, and other learning materials. We will walk through reflective questions and examine examples of practical application of accessibility basics. You will leave this session with a new perspective to use when storyboarding, outlining, and planning learning projects and the tools to coach instructors and presenters to deliver content in an accessible manner.

In this session you will learn:

  • How to analyze learning design through a lens of accessibility for people with varying abilities
  • To apply WCAG/Section 508 accessibility basics to beginning stages of learning design
  • How to coach instructors and presenters to ensure accessible delivery of learning
  • To approach learning design with an accessible mindset
